G1.B old + new
Carlos//Betul//Egle
We continue work with our site and evaluating existing conditions, possible opportunities and challenges. Through the research and precedent analysis, which is represented below, we studied existing examples related to our three primary concepts of the project: safety; social integration; participation.

ART-PUBLIC SPACE- GRAFFITI-OMITTED STORY OF THE CITY- SIGNS OF THE SPACE

SOCIETY-COMMUNITY-PUBLIC SPACE-PARTICIPATION-COMMUNICATION

CONCLUSIONS

old+new.
The main characteristic of the street is graffiti, dirtiness, smell as the street is used as a public toilet. The area features by many bars, clubs and meeting points located in this district. Also, as a student from Marseille's architecture school told us there are many designer shops around which attracts particular type of people to the area. As a result, the area is visited by different types of people at day and night which creates the atmosphere of the place.
One of the ideas of transforming the place is to connect the existing concept of  'public toilet' with the cultural aspect of the city. Old function of the street is improved by introduction of new function. Can toilet be educational, attractive or entertaining? How to combine functionality, hygiene, culture and express in a one concept?
Images below suggest some conceptual ideas as an answer to these questions. The idea is to link public toilet to the open street gallery. In order to make the street permeable, safe and attractive from both sides we propose an activity on the stairs. The activity and visual appearance would be transformed to represent or rather give a cue of the activity and the unique feature of the street.
